When designing a quilt, I like to explore elements that draw the eye in, through a sense of depth, movement and perspective. My inspiration came from the wall of windows in the French chapel, Notre-Dame de Haut - Our Lady of the Heights, built in 1955 and designed by the architect Le Corbusier. This place of worship is a pilgrimage chapel where patrons visit because of their belief in the life eternal - a life “Beyond.” The windows slant towards their centers at varying degrees, which lets in light at different angles. I wanted my quilt to pull one in so you can wonder, “What is beyond?”
