Triangle Modern Quilt Guild Wake Forest, North Carolina, United States
Like so many, I found myself working from home during the COVID pandemic. With this quilt always within a glance, I used small breaks in my workday to make steady progress. As a creative challenge I had purchased a solid destash bundle and vowed to experiment with improv piecing and hand quilting to learn and explore new techniques and express new ideas. Starting with someone else's predefined color palette and quantity of fabric were constraints that I employed to keep focus. As I assembled scraps of fabric, I began to react to the patterns and shapes that were emerging, continuously trimming, tilting and repositioning to maintain balance. This quilt is a metaphor for how I experienced the COVID pandemic: continuously responding to new information; constrained by my know-how and resources; repositioning expectations to achieve harmony. At each turn learning something new and hoping to emerge with something substantive.
