Rome is one of the artist’s favorite cities in Europe. Her love for Rome started with a tour at the Colosseum, where the guide told the most amazing stories about what happened here. There was so much history there compared to New Zealand, where the artist grew up. The artist has visited Rome a few times since that first visit. One such time was when her parents came to Europe for her wedding. They went on several evening walks to walk off dinner and one night passed the Colosseum. It was all lit up, highlighting the architectural details of the windows and arches. The artist uses these core elemental shapes from the architecture and combines them in abstract placement. The color palette of this quilt was inspired by the colors of the Colosseum night view.
