Color Transformation highlights the subtle yarn-dyed fabric of five of the Artisan Cottons for Windham’s 2024 Fabric Challenge. Each fabric is made up of two colors of yarn, one in the warp, one in the weft. Stand in front of the quilt and you will see red-purple and blue-purple fabric. Why the color difference? The red-royal Artisan Cotton was turned 90 degrees. Look at the quilt from the side. You’ll see the colors reverse. The same change happens with the light turquoise fabric since it’s woven with copper and turquoise warp/weft. The remaining three fabrics use analogous colors on the color wheel so the change is more subtle. Reverse fringed seams add extra pops of color highlighting the yarn-dyed Artisan Cotton weave.
