This design is composed of repeating, tessellating shapes known as "The Hat" or the "Einstein Tile" discovered in 2022 and published in a scientific paper by David Smith at al. The Einstein tile is one, aperiodic, tile. "Aperiodic" means that you cannot shift a section of combined tiles over and have it match a previous set. This was an important discovery for mathematicians! In order to make a quilt of the tiles, 30-60-90 degree triangles were drawn and attached together to create foundation papers for piecing. The shapes were repeated and sometimes reversed so that the tiles could fit together. The quilt top was quilted using the digital pattern "Sound Wave" designed by Jessica Schick.
