I’m often fascinated by Reels on Instagram showing repetition of production. For this quilt I was inspired by a cake decoration that created the effect of triangles moving in waves as the cake was spun. The challenge for me was to produce that same movement on a flat surface. By using a series of differently shaped flying geese, having the shapes alter in a sequence across the rows, their starting points shift as you move down the quilt as well as the changing colours on each row the sense of flow is achieved. Looking at the quilt once it was finished reminded me of a murmuration of birds and their hypnotic synchronised movements – much like the Reels that hold my attention.
