A melodeon is a type of accordion and when played, its bellows open and a geometric pattern is often revealed. In response to a challenge to design a quilt using a block with only 3 lines, I created a file in Electric Quilt software which now holds hundreds of block and layout variations. When blocks are rotated, flipped and stretched the possibilities are endless. I've created several quilts that started with this idea. In this case a diamond pattern emerged but it looked rather flat. Simply changing the value in every other column created the illusion of accordion folds. Melodeon was foundation paper pieced and quilted on a stationary machine.
