Marimba No. 1 is a visual representation of my love for music. An ode to my keyboard, it displays a life-size view of my practice marimba in the colors of my heart. Each individual piece was measured and cut to be as accurate as possible to the life-size model and the horizontal quilting echoes the musical staff that holds the language of music. At 17, I am at a crossroads. My quilting journey is only just beginning but my marimba journey is coming to an end. The colors themselves are symbolic of the sunrises and sunsets these experiences bring. I am seeing a new dawn in my love for quilting but night is falling for my youth and the marimba that has been the soundtrack for it all. Marimba No. 1 shows where the paths in my heart intersect at this moment in time.
