Much of my creative practice is driven by a desire to see if something that seems challenging - involving a new-to-me skill or a technically difficult design - is something that I can successfully complete. The questions of success and "can be done" are ones that I enjoy contemplating as I work. For this quilt, I used a design that I had been turning over for awhile. Could I create a quilt entirely of eighth inch strips? If so, what challenges would I face, and what would I need to deem it a success? The answer to the last question is usually if I learned something, even if I decide to keep working. I am happy to have learned a lot about working with narrow strips, and finishing a quilt with such a thick quilt top.
