The basic shapes of circles, squares and rectangles are used to create a dynamic grid like pattern. The pattern has both a variation of color and value intensity. This pattern varies from the light to dark across both the foreground and background of the applique. This variation gives the illusion of depth across the surface and light projecting through the surface.
