Ever since Bill Kerr visited my quilt guild, just prior to COVID, I have wanted to try one of the Modern Quilt Studio’s “Magic Inch” patterns. When I became aware of the Windham Fabric Challenge, I felt the timing was perfect. The selected fabrics and Whiskers pattern seemed a perfect match. To mimic the pattern’s recommendation of using a striped fabric, I opted to create my own striped fabric from the challenge fabric solids. I completed fabric strip sets with varied usage of each fabric. Not wanting all “whiskers” to be stripes, I also used the challenge fabrics as solids for “whiskers “. To quilt the project, I selected Superior Threads KingTut #932 since it contained most of the challenge fabrics colors. The quilting pattern is a simple geometric offset but felt it nicely complements the design. Piecing and quilting were done by myself on my domestic Janome machine.
