This quilt was an experiment in color and value placement. I altered the anvil block on EG8 by changing the center and corners of the block then determined my quilt layout. I used a favorite Amish Watercolor as inspiration for the value placement. Then I spent 3 weeks at the design wall arranging and rearranging my blocks. I paid little attention to the individual blocks, instead concentrating on the merging of 40 colors and values. Instead of using the color block method of past quilts, I blended areas of all warm colors together with a few zingers of cool colors and visa-versa. When I finally started sewing, my first light valued block turned out ugly with no interest or character. It was a total surprise when my ‘ugly duckling’ block turned out to be the focal point and makes this quilt shine.
