English paper piecing has grown to dominate my sewing projects. Trying to challenge myself this past year, I began dabbling in EPP designs with new shapes and fell in love with curves and creating my own curvy templates. The circus tent hexagon block was one of my first creations. It is composed of 12 curved, individual pieces. Here I arranged twelve circus tent blocks to create The Big Top - a total of 144 pieces, hand sewn together. The Big Top was then machine quilted in a straight line manner over batting and backing to create a trapunto effect which I then hand appliqued onto the background. To me The Big Top feels very vintage so I decided to complement it with a subtle, art deco inspired background. Using my Bernina B560 and 12wt thread, I quilted this design. Hope you enjoy!
