I love the flow and organic feel of Maria Shell's technique, Braided Curves. However, it is difficult to incorporate them into a larger piece. My challenge was to determine a way to piece this quilt using controlled curves that have the look and flow of braided curves. I also wanted to incorporate stripped-pieced curves and wavy triangle sections. Construction included lots of partial seams and Y-seams. I used a limited palette with vibrant pops of colors. Using some colors with same value adds a calmness. It was a happy accident that a whale makes an appearance. I quilted the piece with my mid-arm using 40 wt red thread.
