Fish tugs are an iconic image in Michigan and are a reminder that technology and traditions are constantly changing. For the first half of the 20th century they were the main fishing boat on Lake Michigan until the threat of overfishing led to regulations that changed the industry. This tug is now a quiet sentry overlooking the bay that used to be a hub of commercial activity and is now a protected tourist site. In the winter it is a minimalist landscape and one of my favorite spots to visit. Quilt is made of cotton solids with paper piecing, needle turn appliqué, and machine quilted.
