My first response to the fabric bundle was to be absolutely wowed by the apple green and chartreuse color. That color was such a jolt of energy in the palette; it really popped next to the muted blues and deep purples. It wasn't long before I was conjuring images of the iconic sculptures of balloon animals created by Jeff Koons. In creating this pattern, I wanted to explore the modern quilting techniques of using the illusion of transparency in a design and the precision machine piecing of small curves. The balloon is completely machine pieced and hand appliqued onto the background. The color still excites as it pops off the fabric.
