You know how the world sometimes tells you how to behave and what to do (or not do) to find acceptance? I spent a lot of years toning myself down, trying to appear mature and make ‘grown up’ choices. “Keep your head down, don’t take up too much space or else you’ll call attention to yourself!” This quilt is a polite expression of a sentiment something along the lines of ‘screw it!’ A multi-coloured derivative of my South Cross quilt pattern, this piece was an exercise in abandoning a lot of my traditional colour sensibilities and exploring and embracing colour purely for the sake of joy. The older and more ‘mature’ I get, the more I’m learning to liberate myself and grant myself freedom of expression. Colour is wonderful. Life is too hard to not be loud and joyful and true to yourself.
