Built in 1954, the Raleigh House, designed by famous architect Eduardo Catalano, received much acclaim. With its modern aesthetic and hyperbolic paraboloid roof, it was no wonder it was dubbed the “House of the Decade”. As an architecture student at NC State in the 90s I had the opportunity (via light trespassing) to see the famous Catalano House in person before it was demolished. All these years later it is still one of my all-time favorite buildings. While it was razed to make way for an uninspiring McMansion, its legacy as an icon of Mid-Century Modern design will endure for many decades still to come. The quilt pays homage to the iconic silhouette and is machine pieced and custom longarm quilted.
