The challenge was to use magenta - which is not a color that use a lot! But I had to give it a try. In seeking inspiration, I found a lot of magenta in flowers and a few colorful birds. I fell in love with the colors of the Northern Carmine Bee-eater - which you can see down in the lower right. The flowers - a few different varieties - are in the upper left. I completed the 2 columns on either edge, and then worked towards the center by weaving the orange and aquas through the middle to mesh the flowers with the bird. I developed the idea for this quilt (loosely based upon a traditional chevron pattern) after sketching observed patterns and textures found in Hawaii. The journey of bringing the two edges (the bird and the flowers) together through the middle was a fun as I could have hoped!
