Required Supplies: - Scissors for fabric - shared scissors will be provide but you may wish to bring your own to maximize class time
- Cotton Thread (50 wt. is good)
- Hand sewing needles size 6 - 8 (Variety pack of Sharps or Embroidery needles work well too)
- Marking pencil/chalk for both light and dark fabrics. Mechanical pencils recommended.
- Eraser
- Pins
- Assorted fabrics in a variety of light, medium and dark colors. Prints/solids or a mix of both work well for these blocks. Fabric below are minimums needed for ONE block. If you wish to make more blocks please have additional fabrics on hand. -- For ONE block bring 2 different colors: ---Color A: (1) strip 2 1/2” wide by at least 24” long (width of fabric is great too) ---Color B: (1) strip 5 1/2” wide by at least 15” long (width of fabric is great too)

Hand sewing is a great, portable way to work. There are very few tools needed and the slow pace of stitching can be incredibly relaxing and rewarding. In this workshop, students will learn the basics of hand sewing, including creating templates, marking fabric, and tips for y-seams. Students will sew a 4-pointed star block, which gives all the skills needed to go forward with hand sewing.
