In this workshop, students will learn from theories of visual perception, geometric projections and color theory to understand how our brain perceives three dimensions in a 2D plane, like a painting or a quilt. Using four basic block units - the half-square triangle, the half-rectangle triangle, the equilateral triangle and the parallelogram – students will design a variety of 3D illusion blocks. Students will then experiment with different hues and values of color to enhance their illusion designs. This is a design class. Students will work with color pencils, grid paper and paper templates to design their own illusion.
