NOTE: Materials fees are required for some workshops. These fees are paid directly to faculty and are not part of your registration fee. Sold Out?: Yes
Required Supplies: - 1 washed thrifted pillowcase or 1 piece of fabric of a similar size (roughly 30" x 40") that will be soft enough to hand sew through
- Any thread (Amanda's favorite hand sewing threads are DMC Pearl Cotton Size 12 and Aurifil cotton 28wt)
- Sewing needle that fits your thread (Amanda prefers milliners needles and buys packs with a variety of sizes by Dritz or Clover)
- A few safety pins and/or a few straight pins or applique pins
- Thread snips or small scissors (shared scissors will be provide but you may wish to bring your own to maximize class time)
Optional Supplies: - A thimble (Amanda loves her green soft comfort thimble by Dritz)
- Amanda will have plenty of found fabric shapes for you to work with during class, but you are welcome to bring along some of your own fabric scraps in odd shapes, any colors or substrates of fabrics (stretchy, sheer, synthetic, natural, etc) that you are ready to repurpose from garments or past sewing projects!
Gather fabric scraps left over from past projects and bring them to life in a new quilt top! Students will use a combination of hand piecing and hand appliqué to celebrate their found shapes. Everyone is invited to bring their own scraps, but Amanda will have an assortment of secondhand fabric shapes to share as well. Students will bring their own background fabric and then have the option of breaking it into smaller blocks or keeping it as a whole cloth. Students will begin by sorting and arranging shapes to create interesting compositions while paying attention to overlapping, color, negative shapes, and texture. Amanda will share examples of her own quilts that feature found shapes to show how varied the results can be!
