Covid RNA was started in August 2020 when we thought the Covid pandemia was under control after the initial stay home. I then took an indigo dyeing workshop and decided to practice what I learned creating this quilt. After tie-dyeing a rosette and partially submerging it into the indigo vat, I obtained the basic shape that stimulated my imagination about what the Covid virus could look like. I hand embroidered the crowns with French knots, crosses and sticks. Some crowns were tied in the center with embroidery floss. The RNA of the virus was weaved into the machine Satchiko stitches that spiraled around the background. This quilt will always remind me of the of the damages that Covid caused to our community and the people we lost. But it also strengthens my believe in modern science!
