Inspired by the incomparable Moira Rose (“I believe they prefer to be called independent.”), I set out to update the Old Maid’s Puzzle. I chose to enlarge the block which allowed it to be broken into half square triangles. This deconstruction brought more interest into a relatively simple block and allowed an emphasis on the parts that compose the whole. I brought in a second background color to create movement and chose to further focus on the uniqueness of each piece by turning the HSTs in different directions and removing some altogether to allow the background to peak through.
