I was inspired by a painting by Ralph Balson (1890-1964), an English born Australian artist. Transparency effects fascinate me, in paintings and, more so, in fabrics. I love using non-transparent fabrics to create an illusion of overlapping elements. This quilt expresses my love of colour and simple shapes, but with the added depth and luminosity created by the illusion of transparency.
