Inspired by an Anni Albers color study, I originally set out to design a quilt using only three colors, with the Kona Color of the Year, Crush, appearing in all of the blocks. The block design I came up with is a combination of two of my improv favorites—strip piecing and quarter-square curves. The fourth color was added by chance when I ran out of Crush and found a color in my stash with the same value. Hard to believe, but if you take a photo of the quilt in black and white, it will look like the 3-color quilt I originally had in mind.
