As a mother you wish for a happy and healthy life for your kids. It is difficult to see one of them being unhappy, fighting with depression and suizidal thoughts. Feeling not at home in one’s body and gender leads to feelings we all surely can’t understand. However, we can help and support. That’s what my quilt tries to express: We as a family – parents and siblings – are standing straight for the child that’s fighting with his/her feelings, fears and uncertainties coming with the fact of being transgender. We are standing straight around the one person, that is stumbling right now, trying to find a new standing for herself but falling out of the (quilted) grid of so called “normality”. We try to protect her and keep her safe in our middle. This quilt is very personal, with a minimalistic design, but a maximal impact and meaning.
