The older I get, the more I'm drawn to imperfection. Not the 'done is better than perfect' variety, that speaks of a slap-dash approach, overconsumption, and a focus on the end product – but rather one that shows the hand of the maker and shines with personality. What if I tried to make a quilt that was intentionally imperfect, using techniques that normally allow for perfection such as paper piecing and machine quilting. A work still made with care – considered in its design, process and material selection but allowing for wonky seams, fabric running out and other shortcomings in the end result.
