One of the first quilts I ever made almost 30 years ago was a baby quilt featuring the traditional Rocky Road to Kansas block. I wanted to explore that block again, but in a more non-traditional way. I broke the block down into quarters and arranged them so the warm colors and cool colors meld along the diagonal and then reverse. The result is a composition that you have to step back from a bit to appreciate the full effect.
