NOTE: Materials fees are required for some workshops. These fees are paid directly to faculty and are not part of your registration fee. Sold Out?: Yes
Required Supplies: 1) Solid or prints that read as a solid fabric in quantities explained below.
2) Washable fabric glue pen. I like Sew-Line but Elmer’s washable glue will also work.
3) Pins
Fabric quantities: The goal of the workshop will be to plan your design and make a good start on sewing your quilt top. Experienced quilters may be able to finish a quilt top during the workshop, but we will focus on the skills needed for getting precise mitered corners. Gauge how much fabric you will need for the workshop based on your skill level.
Beginning quilters will need a range of fat quarters, as they will likely only complete the inner bands of their quilt top.
Experienced quilters may want to have a range of fat quarters and half yards in order to complete a top.
The fewer colors you use in your design, the more yardage you will need of each color.
Depending on the finished size and the width of the bands in your design, you will need between 16 and 28 colors for the finished quilt. Your fabrics should have a range of color values (lighter and darker shades).
Optional Supplies: Optional, but helpful: Square (3 ½” , 4 ½” or 5 ½”) ruler with a 45 degree line.
Prep Requirements: No pre-cutting required.
Use color value and precision piecing to elevate a traditional log cabin in this mitered corner workshop. Students will plan their quilt top using color value, hue, and saturation to create visual interest and will learn tips and techniques to match points and create a clean diagonal line. Students will also learn about piecing long strips without stretching or warping the fabric. And don’t worry, those mitered corners are just half-square triangles–no scary y-seams here! Students will complete at least a small quilt top in this hands-on basic skills workshop. Sewing machines generously provided by event sponsors!
